Ghost World, the iTunes 99¢ Movie of the Week:
Enid (Thora Birch) and her friend Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson) are round pegs in a square, hiding behind a sarcastic cynicism that isolates them and (they think) protects them from legions of "stupid" people. It's odd, but logical, then, that Enid forms a tentative friendship with a geeky record collector twice her age (Steve Buscemi, in one of his best performances). Slowly, however, Edi realizes that misanthropic Semour is what she risks becoming if she allows her disenfranchisement to define her. "You can't relate to other people," he elucidates, "so you fill your life with stuff." Is this her destiny, or is she brave enough to seek other options?
