So much for that...
May 3rd 2008
First, there was the news that AT&T was offering free wifi to iPhone users, followed closely by a report that a simple Safari tweak + a valid phone number provided the same to notebook users.
The first sign that the good times wouldn't last came from an IGM poster:
[Wednesday], the local Starbucks allowed my iPhone to connect with just my phone number (Welcome iPhone User). Today, I was asked for my user name and password. I hope it isn't the shape of things to come!
Mac Rumors confirms a reversal of fortune in writing:
No official announcement had been made ... and AT&T representatives reportedly declined to comment. [However], many users are reporting that the free iPhone access has been removed and users are unable to log-in with just their phone number.
Perhaps this is just a temporary rollback...
What's your take?
