AT&T wifi free-for-all?

Yesterday, IGM reported that AT&T has begun offering free wifi access for iPhone users nationwide--discover the network, input your iPhone's 10-digit number and you're good to go.

However, the good news doesn't end there.

Mac Rumors forum poster "ntrigue" has done the leg work and found that a simple Safari tweak and a valid iPhone number is all anyone needs to get "free" AT&T wifi access using a laptop.

Apple Store

01 Navigate in Safari to Preferences > Advanced and at the bottom check "Show Develop menu in menu bar"

02 Develop Menu > User Agent > Mobile Safari 1.1.3 - iPhone

03 Discover the network, input your phone number

04 Enjoy!

Of course, the hard part for people that don't have an iPhone is getting a valid number.

But what's a 10-digit number between friends? I suspect there will be an online database of useable numbers very, very soon. Perhaps Serial Box will even start listing them.

After all, it's just an activation code, right?
