Apple ready to dump excess inventory [updated]


Yesterday, IGM noted rumors of an imminent iBook update. Today, comes news from AppleInsider that Apple is preparing to dump excess stock. This sell-off will be carried out by the fine folks at Overstock.com, which recently helped the mothership move last-gen iPods.

According to the writeup, Apple and Overstock.com have agreed the terms of a deal to clear excess stock of last-gen iMacs, PowerMacs and current Mac minis. Of course, rumorological and analyst sites have speculated that the mini is due for an update.

With news of an imminent iBook update, as well as Apple's on-going sales drive (ie halo effect), now would seem a good time for a refresh of the "cheap" Mac mini.

Update--Think Secret is now reporting that Apple databases now list new part numbers for the iBook and Mac mini. Further, chimes in with a write up stating these "new" products will ship next week...
