'New' iBooks expected soon
July 20th 2005
Quoting unnamed sources, ThinkSecret reports that "new" iBooks are due any day. Rumors of refreshed consumer portables have circulated for months, including credibility-straining stories of G5 iBooks, but with Apple making a major institutional and back-to-school push now might be the time for burnished kit.
Though it's possible Apple will loose a completely redesigned product, what it can afford to put inside is constrained:
• 333MHz FSB, memory
• Processor speed won't exceed 1.5GHz
• 9600 graphics processor w/ 64MB
However, given the persistent reports of production contracts that are said to come into effect in December, I strongly suspect we'll only see an internal refresh and no new enclosure. Nevertheless, what is already a rather solid product line will get a skinch better.
What's your take?
