MobileMe guided tour

Yesterday, Apple announced MobileMe, a natural evolution of its pay-to-play .Mac online service. In addition to doubling storage to 20GB, new features are built around a technology called "push," which automatically propagates data across devices as its created or changed.

Billed as "Exchange for the rest of us," MobileMe proactivity keeps your your email, contacts, calendar, photos, files, etc synced and updated on all of your devices--PCs, Macs, iPhone / touch using push. When you create or edit data--a contact for example--MobileMe pushe to the cloud (ie internet) and then down to your other devices, keeping everything up-to-date and in sync.

It's easy enough to imagine, though there's more beauty in the details.

Thereupon, Apple's recruited "John," a staple character in company videos and a mild-mannered Apple Store employee by day, to give MobileMe features a once over with a guided tour.

If you prefer, you can download a copy of the video to your Mac, etc. Though you can go for the hi-res version (240MB), the iPod version was plenty good for me and weighs only 34MB.

And, by the way, what won't change in Apple's transition from .Mac to MobileMe? The price. You'll be getting a lot more, but it will still cost $99 per year.
