Mac sales skyrocket

As Dell desperately seeks Wal-Mart's embrace to bolster its flagging sales, AppleInsider brings us news of the surge in Mac sales. Retail Mac sales grew 62 percent year-over-year for the month of April, which included a 94 percent spike in portable sales.

"Checks for Macs have been solid, backing our 25 percent unit growth estimate for [the company's fiscal third quarter] which should also see support from recently updated MacBooks," said Ben Reitzes of NPD.

Moreover, the analyst believes widely rumored Mac and iPod updates, some of which are expected in June, will add fuel to the fire and further increase Apple's already industry-beating growth rates.

Editor's note: Of course, a big factor in competitors' "disappointing" sales is Vista's near utter failure to excite buyers.
