EOL for the 17" iMac?


ThinkSecret reports that an upcoming iMac update will arrive sans a 17-inch model.

The decision to axe the smallest iMac comes as display prices continue to track downwards, making the cost difference for Apple between a 17-inch display and a 20-inch display almost negligible. Demand from display customers for larger sizes coupled with more productive manufacturing plants in Asia have been the guiding factors in those lower prices.

Moreover, it's claimed that Apple's Cinema Display product line will also see an update in the coming weeks

An iMac update is said to be in the pipe for late June.

Editor's note: Unless Apple's planning to spring a new "educational" Mac on us, I remain highly skeptical as their market share in education has been on the rise and removing the most-affordable all-in-one line model wouldn't seem a wise move. The Mac mini really doesn't cover that ground...
