Volkswagen GTi gets 'mini' treatment [updated]

Gizmodo reports on Matt Turner and his month-long endeavor of permanently installing and integrating a Mac mini into his 2001 Volkswagen GTi ([Update]the SlashDott effect has cool). His rendition of the in-car computer that does everything but the blue-screen of death includes:

7-inch USB touchscreen
EasyCat trackpad
USB AM/FM tuner
Integrated iPod dock

Holding all this together is "some very nice fabricated, brushed aluminum trim bezels..." Turner says he expects to spend the next several days detailing the steps involved, as well as issues he's run into.

Gizmodo opines that Turner's "mini-ized" GTi "shows very clearly [he] knows what he's doing." More photos are available on his site, which is currently [Update] back online after the Slashdot effect subsided.

Editor's note: Perhaps the only things he's missing are a backseat display and control pad. But, I expect someone will deliver the full enchilada over the coming days and weeks.

Also, as previously posited, with so many DIYers already showing the way, it won't be long now before commercial/retail kits for getting the job down appear.

What's your take?
