iPhone nano order to push utilization at TSMC

CENS reports that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) will likely to see capacity utilization ratio rebound to 50% in March after suffering two consecutive quarters utilization of around 35%. The source of the chip foundry's improving fortunes reportedly will be traceable to orders from Apple for use in the company's long-rumored iPhone nano.

It is believed that Apple is sourcing the iPhone nano's baseband chip from Broadcomm. Infineon is the supplier of the 3G iPhone's baseband chip.

March component delivery is consistent with a late June or early July product rollout, which has been Apple's pattern to date.

This report adds details and weight to an earlier IGM write up noting that TSMC and United Microelectronics will likely benefit from iPhone nano-related orders.
