EFiX dongle's creator disavows clone plans [u]

According to a letter published by Tom's Hardware, Davide Rutigliano, CEO of Art Studios Entertainment (developers of the EFiX USB dongle), has disavowed EFiX USA's intention to begin selling the Millennium 4, a whitebox PC that is OS X ready as soon as Monday, Dec 15.

"This, today, created a monstrous misunderstanding," said Rutigliano. "Our USA distributor, following (I have to say erroneously) the certification program built up a quite nice PC, but it was presented to the press in a totally erroneous way to which we at Art Studios Entertainment Media are absolutely unrelated to!"

He goes on to say that, "Whatever EFiX USA announced, had no affiliation with Art Studios Entertainment--the actual company designing and engineering the EFiX modules."

So, what began as a test bed computer, a template system for others to copy is, perhaps, going to be sold by EFiX USA as a OS X-ready system. And now Art Studios Entertainment, the company behind the EFiX USB dongle, which makes the whole deal possible, has publicly come out against the endeavor.

What hasn't been said by Rutigliano is what he and his company will do if EFiX USA goes ahead with its plan to ship Millennium 4.

[u] Wired called EFiX USA with questions about earlier reports that the company would offer OS X ready PC boxen.

"We certainly don't want to get into a legal battle that's over a couple thousand dollars," an EFIX USA spokesman said. "Potentially Apple could have a legal issue there. They may not have a legal issue, but with all the money they have they might try to make one."

And, that would appear to be that. [u]
