Say it again, the Mac's recession proof...


Back on March 20, American Technology Reseach analyst Shaw Wu posited that the recession would be no brake on Apple's growing notebook and desktop computer sales.

"So far, our sense is that the Mac business appears to be recession proof," said the pundit.

More than five months after Wu spoke those words, Mac sales don't appear to be slowing down even as US consumer spending and confidence heads lower.

"Apple planned purchases [Ed--US only] for the next 90 days have hit a new all-time high for both Laptops (34%; up 2-pts) and Desktops (30%; up 3-pts)," says Paul Carton, SeekingAlpha, riffing on ChangeWave's latest data. "A total of 17% say they're now more likely to buy an Apple laptop or desktop in the future because of the 3G iPhone; only 1% said less likely." [Continue Reading]

What of the competition? The number of people planning to Dell products held steady while those who say they'll purchase an HP has fallen markedly.

Editor's note: The economy is the rocks, consumers are pulling back and Apple's still on a role. With fresh iPods just out of the oven and the scent of revised Macs wafting out of Cupertino's kitchen, Apple does indeed look recession proof...
