Apple signs with 3 Russian carriers?

Bloomberg, quoting a newspaper write up that in turn quotes unnamed people familiar with the talks, reports Apple has signed agreements with Mobile TeleSystems, VimpelCom and MegaFon sell the iPhone in Russia.

The three operators signed a contract to sell a total of 1.8 million iPhones a year and sales may start as early as Sept 26, whereas October has previously been rumored as the timeframe for the beginning of sales.

Previously, it had been rumored that Apple was demanding that each carrier should sell 1 to 1.5 million handsets each.

Editor's note: If Russia's indeed a done deal, the only "major" country still without an official iPhone sales channel is China. It's believed that over a half-million unlocked iPhones are in use in both Russia and China.
