Apple announces results webcast

Apple has posted a placeholder / information page for their Monday, July 21 (5pm EST) conference call webcast discussing Q3 - 2008 financial results--it's widely expected that Apple will deliver yet another sterling quarter.

Today, riffing on Gartner data, AppleInsider says it expects Apple to announce sales of 2.54-million Macs worldwide for the quarter, which is 38% Mac unit volume growth year-over-year--nearly 10 times the US industry average.

The consensus street guestimate is that Apple will announce sales of 2.5-million Macs, 10.5-million iPods and 700,000 iPhones.

What if...

Also sampling yesterday's Gartner / IDC data is 9 to 5 Mac, which asks the interesting question, 'What if iPhones were counted as computers?'

Of course, lots of people are using their iPhones and touches as mobile computers and, if the bean counters added those numbers to their totals, Apple would be within shouting distance of the No 2 market share spot in the US.

Food for thought...
