Apple rises to No 3 [u]

Quoting Gartner data, MarketWatch reports that Apple is now the No 3 computer vendor in the US. On the back of a 38% growth, nearly 10 times the industry average of 4.2%, the company claimed an 8.5% share.
Gartner's US Top 5 looks like this:
1> Dell 32%
2> HP 25.3
3> Apple 8.5
4> Acer
5> Toshiba
Gartner believes that Apple sold 1.4-million Macs in the US in the June quarter. AppleInsider has extrapolated the data and estimates that the mothership moved 2.54-million Macs worldwide, compared to 2.289-million it shifted in the January to March period.
According to IDC (CBCNews), Apple ranks No 6 worldwide. However, IDC believes the company's share of the US market is 7.8%, which puts it into a tie with Acer for the No 3 spot.
Apple will announce results on Monday, July 21 via its regular, quarterly conference call.
