iTunes to add iPhone remote function?

MacRumors that developers receiving a pre-release version of iTunes 7.7 found an interesting reference in the application's read me--a hint that iPhone and iPod touch owners will be able to use their devices as iTunes remotes.

Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home--a free download from the App Store.

MacRumors adds that Apple has previously patented this similar technologies, which one assumes will function via wi-fi.

In related news, iPodObserver reports that Apple has release beta 8 of the iPhone SDK, which includes the pre-release version of iTunes.

Editor's note: Though perhaps not a killer feature, this is a nice touch and it's all-the-better that it will be delivered free.
