Safari 3.1.2 for Windows

Apple has released an update for the Windows version of the company's web browser.

Safari 3.1.2 for Windows, 44MB
-- This update is recommended for all Safari Windows users and includes stability improvements and the latest security updates.

There's more specific information, as well, from Apple. Specifically, this update addresses the carpet bombing issue:

Macbook, Macbook Pro, iMac and iPod Sale!

•Safari
CVE-ID: CVE-2008-2540

Available for: Windows XP or Vista Impact: Saving untrusted files to the Windows desktop may lead to the execution of arbitrary code.

Yes, other issues are addressed, but that's the marque fix in this release.

None of the issues addressed in Safari 3.1.2 for Windows affect the Mac.

Editor's note: The carpet bombing issue is only an issue because of a long-standing unpatched vulnerability in Internet Explorer. Still, Apple did the right thing and patched the issue rather stubbornly insisting that they were in the right and didn't need to do anything.

In a nutshell, they took care of the customer. Kudos, Apple..
