Apple's 'biggest ever' back-to-school promo

AppleInsider, bless their scatological souls, have published a rumor that this year's Apple back-to-school promotion will top all previous pushes.

Retail VP Ron Johnson delivered the hype to the troops at a meeting several weeks back, saying this year's promo would be the biggest ever (ie incentives).

Apple Insider has learned that the mothership may roll out its promotional plans as early as Monday, June 2.

Last year's incentive was a "free after rebate" iPod nano, $199 value, with the purchase of a new Mac.

Editor's note: Forgive my cynicism, but in the hands of retail marketing people, innocuous objects become life altering epiphanies. All you have to do to get them is spend more than you originally planned and then (hopefully) forget to send in / collect the rebate.

Although I'm religious about taking care of rebates--can't remember missing one--the world would be an ever so slightly better place to live if Apple just gave a straight discount...
