With velvety smooth Montevina goodness

Earlier today, we reported on the release of updated iMacs, as well as price cuts for last-gen refurbs. Those are, without a doubt, good things™.

And, the silver lining (yes, get one of those, too) is that today's nü iMacs (they're too cool to be just "new") include a special treat from our friends at Intel--the Montevina processor.

Gizmodo reports that the Montevina processor, which isn't due to be announced until early June, and a still unannounced chipset are the source of the iMac's 1066MHz front-side bus.

Even though the release doesn't namedrop Montevina, the 1066MHz front-side bus with processor speed up to 3.06GHz tells us it's the case, since Santa Rosa's FSB only hits 800. Which you means you should see a solid performance boost in these babies, not just better efficiency.

So, lots of good news, including some no one was expecting (and, likely, could have predicted), very much like the arrival of the MacBook Air.
