There's an extensive Apple Discussions thread on the topic [u] that has now, according to MacFixIt, been acknowledged by Apple.[u]

Apple has received reports similar to the behavior you are describing and we are investigating those reports. Further information will come in the form of a Knowledge Base article, Software Update or Software Release.

The good news is that OS X 10.5.3 apparently addresses these issues. The bad news is that the update likely won't be released for at least several more weeks.

Editor's note: OK, there's a fix that's part of OS X 10.5.3. Why not break it out and ship it separately?

What's your take?
