Sony, Apple settle fiery suit

Dow Jones (eTrade) reports that Apple Japan and Sony have agreed to jointly pay about ¥1.3 million ($12,871) to settle a damage suit filed by a Japanese man who suffered burns after his Apple notebook caught fire due to its defective Sony-made battery.

The three parties reached the settlement at the Osaka District Court April 2. The case was filed in July of last year and the man originally claimed ¥2 million damages.

Sony, which denied there was connection between their battery and the fire cited in the case, recalled 9.6 million lithium-ion batteries after a number of fires were linked to the batteries starting in 2006.
