OS X 10.5.3: Sooner?


When OS X 10.5.3 began testing in earnest last week, it was expected that Apple would following its usual practice of releasing only milestone builds of the update to the wider developer community, while holding back incremental builds.

However, AppleInsider reports that the mothership has just released its third external developer build (9D12), marking a significant departure from past practice.

The company has historically followed a pattern in which it would alternate between releasing external and internal builds, where successive external seeds--those to outside developers--would only occur in the days leading up to the software's intended release.

MacRumors has also noted the departure from precedent in saying:

Typically, Apple has waited several builds before re-seeding new versions to developers. In the past, rapid-fire seeding has meant that they were prepping for the final release.

To date, OS X 10.5.3 includes more than 110 fixes and code corrections, including issues affecting Spaces, .Mac preferences, Airport and Network Setup Assistant.
