Microsoft, Adobe agree on Flash, Reader

Associated Press reports that Microsoft has licensed Flash and Reader (.pdf) for use on its Windows Mobile platform.

"Flash content is the most prolific content on the web today; it is the way people express themselves on the Internet," Adobe spokesman Gary Kovacs said.

Scott Rockfeld, group product manager at Microsoft's mobile communications business, said the decision was about providing more choice to its customers (Redmond's always [*cough*] been about providing choice).

"Obviously it's one of the things that customers are asking for," said Rockfeld. "Flash is something that is very prevalent on the Web"

He didn't, however, say when Flash would become available on Windows Mobile devices.

Recently, Steve Jobs has said that current mobile versions of Flash aren't suitable for use on the iPhone.

Editor's note: It has been speculated that Apple's refusing to license Flash because it doesn't want Adobe's Reader, which is widely disparaged.

Today's news seems to back this interpretation...
