Flash glut = Bigger SSDs

As manufacturers cope with a product glut and plummeting prices, TechSpot reports that Intel will release 80 and 160GB SSD drives later this year, a move that will surely net at least one executive at the chip giant a six-figure bonus and the guy that thought of the idea a ham, maybe.

They have long been developing memory and flash technology, but mass storage has not been their forte. Now, they are planning to not only continue the development of their own SSD units, but do such in a fiercely competitive manner as to take on Samsung, BiTMICRO and others.

Intel, a long-time leader in Flash manufacturing, entered the SSD market late last year.
