MBA sales not so good

For the first time since Insanely-Great began tracking sales, the MacBook Air is listed as the No 1 seller at the Apple Store.

Previously, the MBA had headlined Amazon's top-selling notebooks page, though today it manages only 27th place.

Adding further mud to the picture, AppleInsider reports that MacBook Air sales tracking below than the original Intel MacBook when it launched in May '06. Specifically, according to Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster, 60 percent of surveyed retailers say the MBA was generating less demand than the original Intel MacBook did when it shipped about two years ago.

"More specifically, [resellers] are noticing that customers are more curious, but less willing to buy the MacBook Air than they were the original MacBook," said Munster. "We believe the MacBook [remains] the most popular Mac."

Overall, the 20 resellers polled by Piper Jaffray are collectively expecting March quarter Mac sales to be flat sequentially--35 percent say Mac sales are up, 20 percent flat and 45 percent down.

Editor's note: A real mixed bag, much like MBA reviews to date. Apple could help themselves if the USB to Ethernet convertor wasn't a separate purchase and they cut the price a little ($100)...
