Apple, Elan may cross license

Quoting the usually reliable Electronic Daily News (EDN), DigiTimes is reporting that touch-panel maker Elan Microelectronics and Apple are in cross-licensing talks.

Although it is unlikely to win touch panel orders from Apple for the iPhone, Elan believes it could win the right to use capacitive panel technology owned by the mothership.

Editor's note: As noted, EDN's usually reliable, which makes one wonder why Apple would want to deal. The easy answer is that Cupertino needs to license Elan's technology, which might be a hint that new and / or revised touch products are on the horizon...
