Canada overturns iPod tax

Bloomberg reports that the Canadian court of appeals has ruled that country's so-called iPod tax, raised music player unit prices as much as C$75 each, is illegal.

In its ruling, the court said the country's copyright board "has no legal authority to certify a tariff on digital audio recorders or on the memory permanently embedded in digital audio recorders."

"We certainly hope that this decision will bring this issue to a close once and for all," said Diane Brisebois, president, Canada Retail Council.

The decision, which tossed out a copyright board ruling, is a victory for consumers, among others.

Editor's note: A small victory, but I doubt the pigopolists have given up...
