Best Buy to double Mac presence

Quoting UBS research, The Street reports that Best Buy will nearly double the number of outlets selling Macs.

Based on conversations with Best Buy executives at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas ... the retail giant plans to expand its Mac sales to 500 stores in the coming year. Best Buy currently sells Macs in about 270 stores and is a leading seller of iPods in all 900 of its stores...

"Even with prospects for a slowing economy, we believe Mac demand can keep going strong given new products," said UBS analyst (AppleInsider) Ben Reitzes. "The key question into Apple's earnings is whether Best Buy and new Mac products can help drive upside while iPod demand seems more seasonal."

This may be good news for people living smaller cities nationwide that don't yet have and likely won't get an Apple Store, such as Erie, PA, which is at least 90 minutes from the nearest temple outlet...
