Napster to dump DRM

Reuters reports that Napster has said it will start selling downloads in the MP3 format from Q2, dumping Microsoft's DRM in the process.

"We projected a year ago that there would be a critical mass of support for MP3, and we're pleased to see the music industry is beginning to support it," said Chief Executive Chris Gorog. "There's now enough top-tier content out there."

All of the major labels have either moved to released MP3 content or announced the intention to do so.

Editor's note: This means that Napster's content will play on an iPod.

With this news, I anticipate major announcement from Apple on DRM...
