Home-brew 'Hackintosh'

Life Hacker has created a "Hackintosh"--a PC running Leopard--for under $800. Here's what's inside Life Hacker's unholy (or glorious, depending on your point-of-view) computer:

The build consists of a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a total of 4GB of RAM (four sticks at 1GB each), an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard, a GeForce 7300GT (the same basic video card that comes installed in the default Mac Pro configuration), a 500GB hard drive, a DVD burner, and an Antec Sonata case...

Reading and understanding the Hackintosh build instructions isn't particularly daunting and easily achievable, especially if you've built a few PCs.

And, in terms of set up, there are only two things that average users might find challenging--updating motherboard BIOS and patching the Leopard install DVD. Even there Life Hacker's directions are pretty easy to follow.

Though the price is certainly right, is building a Hackintosh a good value?
