AI: Apple Subnotebook Scheduled for March '08?

AppleInsider reports that Apple's widely-rumored subnotebook is set for launch in the first quarter of 2008. The story cites analyst Gene Munster's speculation, although Munster himself notes that he does not have firm evidence upon which to base his predictions.

Munster argues that a subnotebook would be a logical extension of Apple's existing technology base, and is likely to draw upon the MacBook. However, an Apple subnotebook would have a 10" or 11" screen; it would utilize iPod Touch technology; and it would sport a full keyboard.

"Such a device would likely have features and capabilities that the iPhone does not have, like data storage and file saving as well as document editing features," Munster wrote in a research note quoted by AppleInsider. "We believe Apple's multi-touch technology is slightly ahead of competitors using touch based input technology, and as such we expect Apple to leverage its multi-touch technology in future products."

In related news, Munster believes that Phone unlocking will only have a marginal effect upon Apple's revenues. His estimate is AT&T will pay Apple $7 million in revenue share this quarter, with only a maximum $700,000 impact on Cupertino's share of the bounty, based on approximately 10% of iPhones sold which are subsequently unlocked.
