Skype Comes to iPhone

A hack has enabled Skype's VoIP to work on the iPhone, VNUnet reports.

The hack reportedly circumvents AT&T's lock on the iPhone to enable Skype. But it's not a trivial thing to do. It requires broadband, a PC, a and a number of pieces of software. the Opera browser, v. 8.6 or later, has to be installed, while the application SoonR Talk - which is what will really make iPhone a VoIP device - has to be installed on the PC.

iPhone then acts as a remote control for the PC and Skype and SoonR service can then be accessed, the VNUnet reports.

Tom Keating, who developed the workaround, says, "SoonR Talk will tell your PC to call your mobile phone using SkypeOut. Then SoonR Talk will instruct Skype to call your buddy over the Skype IP network, placing you in a conference."
