Mac Market Share Hits 7.6%, iPhone Frenzy Reaches Fever Pitch

USA Today reports that Mac market share in the US, as of May 2007, has reached 7.6%, a far cry from the 3.2% Apple achieved with the Mac in May 2004.

Although the article focuses predominantly on the iPhone, the figures are stunning. Not to mention the 46 million iPods sold in 2006, contributing to record revenues of $24 billion last year.

Latest iPhone news: every AT&T store will have it. But how many in stock? No one's saying.

The quotation-of-the-day belongs to an iPhone early-adopter's girlfriend, who proves that the device has already been one of Apple's greatest marketing successes:

"For the past four weeks, I've heard nothing but iPhone talk from David, his friends, my brother and, basically, any male between the ages of 13 and 40 within earshot. It's insane. I'd pay 500 bucks and sleep outside in line to just shut these guys up."
