Zune Fails to Set Amazon Charts Ablaze

Information Week reports that Microsoft's Zune music player failed to chart amongst the best-sellers at Amazon.com during the holiday shopping season.

On the biggest on-line retailer's electronics charts, the 30GB iPod (black) is # 1, the 1GB Shuffle # 2 and SanDisk's 2GB MP3 player is # 3. The Nano 2GB is # 5, the 80GB iPod an impressive # 7, while the white 30GB iPod is at 19. The 4GB Nano (silver) is # 26 and pink at 36, blue at 48.

Zune finally cracks the top 50, coming in at - you guessed it - # 50. Incidentally, it's 'in-stock' and there are 29 new and used.

Analysis: Interesting numbers and the Nano is still selling well, if you put the 2 and 4GB models together. What's not doing so well is the 8GB edition and it's not hard to see why, as it costs as much as full-sized iPod, but offers few features and much less storage (albeit better battery life and smaller footprint).

MS claims to be happy with Zune's performance. Will it sell a million by mid-2007? Will it gain critical mass, or will it fail like Dell's DJ Ditty?
