4GB iPod Mini: Still the People's Choice

AppleInsider reports that despite the iPod Mini's recent capacity upgrade to 6GB, the 4GB model remains the most popular by a considerable margin.

The article says that 4GB model outsells its 6GB sibling by as many as three units to one, according to Apple Retail Store sources.

According to anecdotal reports, although Apple salespeople attempt to persuade buyers to opt for the more spacious 6GB model, the word on the street is that the 1,000-song capacity of the 4 gigger "is enough".

The 4GB iPod Mini also seems to be the focal point for buyers who might otherwise purchase a 1GB iPod Shuffle. According to AppleInsider, 1GB Shuffle sales have dropped off considerably in the last few weeks, as consumers are prepared to spend an additional $50 on a 4GB Mini.

AppleInsider says that this may move Apple to revamp its iPod lines in the near future, with a possible 'intermediate' model between the 1GB Shuffle and the 4Gb Mini, to plug the gap in the market.

The full-sized iPods have had "mixed results" lately, according to the story.

On the Mac front, the Mac Mini now reportedly accounts for between 1:3 - 1:4 units, while the PowerBook G4, despite some trackpad issues, continues to do well.
