Super Shuffle a marketing ploy
March 21st 2005
Engadget offers a reader report that states that LuxPro never had any intention of producing the Super Shuffle and that the entire exercise was a cynical ploy to garner "free" publicity. Here's a quote:
So, there will be no Apple lawsuits, no Super Shuffles fighting their way onto racks at Circuit City, no angry mobs of Apple lawyers storming the LuxPro factory. This was not a prank, nor was it an act of blind stupidity. In my view, it was one of the most clever PR maneuvers I have ever seen executed by a small company.
By the way, the reader quoted above is none other than Jack Campbell, a person quite familiar with deceptive marketing practices and, yes, a convicted felon.
Editor's note: Yup, LuxPro certainly is admirable. Among the civilized, "bait and switch" is a punishable offense.
That said, it's hardly surprising to see a scumbag admiring the handiwork of a fellow scumbag.
What's your take?
