Fresh 970MP spore

IBM has posted tech doc on the thermal diodes embedded in the 970MP, which is described by the company as "the next evolutionary step in the PowerPC 970 family..." Some pundits believe the 970MP will be the chip used in Apple's next-gen PowerMacs and recent sightings may support that notion.

The ever-reliable Think Secret, however, seems certain that Apple's next-gen pro tower will come to market with the 970GX.

Whichever chip is inside, the fact that pro apps--like the kind content divas run on PowerMacs--are those that stand to gain the most from a 64-bit OS running on 64-bit computers would seem to infer new pro towers will arrive sooner rather than later. There are, of course, other issues--thermals, component availability, stock of current kit, etc--that could influence the "what and when," but surely we won't need to wait until the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, will we?

What's your take?
