Flash player price 'shuffle' continues

DigiTimes reports that Taiwanese MP3-player makers have cut prices in response to the introduction of the iPod shuffle here on the Silicon Isle. Name brand MP3 players from the also-rans, such as Creative, have seen selling prices fall dramatically in response to the marketing and sales juggernaut that is the iPod.

In Taiwan, the 1GB iPod shuffle sells for NT$5,200 (US$1=NT$32). Apple's increasingly chastened competition is advertising product at retail here for NT$5,000 or less. Further, no-name/white box models are selling for only NT$4,000.

DigiTimes notes that 1GB Flash memory modules sell for as little as $65 (NT$2,080).

Editor's note: Though I don't expect Apple to disrupt its linearly significant pricing scheme (ie $99 through $349 in $50 increments), knocking $5 to $10 off the price of the shuffle every month or so might be just the thing to humble the competition into true irrelevance.
