.Mac: Virex is back


.Mac, Apple's pay-to-play online service, is listing Virex 7.5.1 as available for download. Version 7.5 was pulled several weeks after its release due to a number of mail-scanning issues.

In this release, the offending functionality has been removed rather than repaired. It is otherwise complete and these are advertised features:

• Active Scanner for continuous anti-virus protection;
• Background Scanner, a new feature that actively scans your system;
• Scan Mounted Volume, initiates a scan of volumes as they are attached;
• HealthCheck, keeps Virex' scanners up and running;
• VirexReporter reports infected files found by scanners;
• Virex Schedule Editor enables you to schedule automated scans and virus definition updates.

This application is "free" for .Mac members and otherwise costs $40.50. Volume pricing is available.
