Panther Goes Native with the Pioneer DVR-107

The OS X 10.3.3 release yesterday also delivers native burn support for Pioneer's DVR-107D dual DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW recorder, MacBidouille reports.

Intriguingly, the burner is not only 'supported' by Apple, but also works in an external FireWire case, according to one MacBidouille correspondent. Reportedly, even via FireWire it works "with all the iApps."

Does that mean it will work with iDVD? We wonder. Maybe Apple's view is that the SuperDrive is not such a marketing point anymore, as people can just buy them off the shelf. Still, we'd be very surprised if it did work with iDVD, and not just with iPhoto and iTunes. After all, Apple is only now beginning to work DVD+ support in at the OS level (OS X 10.3.3's DVD Player support for DVD+ video discs, for example).

Nevertheless, it's good news for those who choose to go for third-party peripherals and components. And for when I eventually get Panther (or beyond), my Pioneer 107 [see our recent review will be officially supported.
