PowerBook G5: 'It's going to be a while'
November 4th 2003
ComputerWorld has posted an interview with Dave Russell, director of product marketing, portables and wireless, Apple. In the write up. Russell states that, although Apple would love to produce a G5-powered PowerBook, thermal issues will prevent that from happening any time soon.
"We certainly want to do that," Russell told ComputerWorld. "But it's going to be a while ... Have you looked at the inside of the G5 tower?"
The latter statement refers to the nine fans located inside the mothership's latest top-of-the-line desktops.
Editor's note: Recent rumors have indicated that Apple might be offering G5 PowerBooks early next year. However, statements by Russell squelch that possibility.
Fundamentally, the G4 is a fine processor. The problem all along hasn't been the silicon, but Moto.
