Guv biz: Apple's new front line?

From high-profile announcements like the addition of Apple products to the Office & Budget Management's list of approved products to little things like the mothership's participation at the Government Video Technology Expo, things perhaps big things are afoot for our favorite company.

The latter will provide hands-on demos of the latest professional video, audio and multimedia products, an area which Apple clearly dominates, Additionally, it's a chance to pitch those widgets to buyers -- a massive and highly influential market.

For example, if your primary client is the government, wouldn't you be more likely to choose the same platform, especially if those people are a bit partisan (as a whole Mac users are rather partisan).

Likewise, MacTeens, an unlikely but reputable source, reports that Panther (build 7B53) includes Finder and OS hooks that are specific for use by government workers. These include embedded images, specifically the seals of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, as well as non-military government units.

Also, government-specific UI enhancements include log-in screens that have disclaimers and expected responsibilities for users.

Editor's note: Though none of these items taken in isolation means much. However, taken together and the simple fact that they've all come to our attention in the last two weeks could mean much.

Being in the good graces of government buyers could not only mean more sales, but also sales that don't necessarily go up and down with the economy. Also, as noted above, the products the government uses could have a ripple affect with government contractors.

What's your take?
