2GHz Power Mac G5 Rockets to #3 in AppleStore Sales

Any doubts about pent-up demand for a truly fast Power Mac should be put to bed by the Dual 2GHz Power Mac's showing on the AppleStore charts this week.

Outstripped only by the much cheaper iSight and iPod, the Power Mac beats out the PowerBook G4/12.1" as the top-selling Mac, a position the PowerBook has occupied for some time.

No figures are available from Apple, but it's significant that buyers want to get their hands on the fastest Mac on the planet, rather than its more modestly-endowed G5 siblings, which don't crack the top ten.

Analysis: Being the Mac that third-party dealers probably can't get their hands on - at least in volume - for quite a while, it's not so surprising the AppleStore should rack up serious orders. It can't hurt that QuarkXPress 6 for OS X - now a spot in the background - has also been released (or so Quark have promised).
