Deal reportedly has subscribers of Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune getting iPad version


The Wall Street Journal is reporting Monday that Time and reached a subscription deal with Apple with three of its biggest magazines to the iPad. The deal essentially allows subscribers of Time, Sports Illustrated, and Fortune to have free access to the iPad version of the magazines. Monday, updates to the respective apps hit the iTunes Store.

The company's were reportedly at an impasse over Apple's requirements to control subscriptions and protect its customer's data. The publications join Time's People Magazine which is also providing free digital copies to magazine subscribers. Recently users could only buy individual issues of the magazines, which were $4.99 for Time.

Rumors have it that publishers have until the end of June before Apple's new subscription plans take place. Things could still shake up between now and then, but the recent deal is promising that things will work out.
