Next week's release of iOS 4.3 will include Apple's Nitro Engine Javascript interpreter. When release on Safari 5.0 for the Mac OS, the Nitro Engine brought a 30-percent improvement to desktop browsing. WIth iOS, the Nitro Engine looks to bring even more impressive gains to Apple's mobile devices. Earlier this week Apple said the Nitro Engine should boost Javascript performance by up to 2x. Benchmarks of Google's V8 Benchmark Suite, however, seem to exceed that. The benchmarks indicate that an iPhone 4 running the iOS 4.3 GM is 3x and 2.4x faster. Tests were done running iOS 4.3 on two different benchmark tests. ![]() (Note benmarks were run three times and results were averaged)
