ATT announces MMS rollout times

Company simultaneously calls its shot and worries about network frenzy.

As we know, Friday is the rollout for MMS on AT&T's network. This brings the messaging feature to Apple's U.S. customers. MMS has been available in other markets with the release of iPhone OS 3.0 in July. Late Wednesday AT&T gave some more info, indicating the transition will begin late morning Pacific time.

On its Facebook page, AT&T wrote, "We know you've been eager for this service so we wanted to offer a quick update on the launch plans for MMS on Friday, Sept. 25. Late morning, Pacific Time, on Friday, the new carrier settings update enabling MMS should be live and ready ...to download through iTunes. We'll provide the steps and all of the details you need right here at that time."

In other news, AT&T is reportedly concerned about a wave of bandwidth intensive activity going across its network in a short period of time. DSLReports.com relays the anxiety around the high-profile launch.

Frankly, this is setting up for crash and burn for AT&T. It's remarkable AT&T set such a public date versus a soft launch, and even more so now telling customers when to have their phones on ready to pelt its network with video and pictures.
