Google Voice bridges voicemail to email

Customers of Google acquisition GrandCentral have something new to play with. The new feature likely also gives the rest of us a look into future plans.

VoIP provider GrandCentral offers a single phone number for users to receive calls in multiple locations. The service can be setup to ring different destination numbers depending on time or who is calling and other options.

Google's beta announcement brings voice to text service to its central voicemail box. Essentially the service will transcribe your voicemail message. The messages can be read, in addition to played, inside the Google Voice application. Also messages can be delivered via email or SMS.

The service is in beta and only available to existing GrandCentral customers. There's a notification list for users who are interesting in being alerted to when the service may be available to them.
