Apple this week released macOS Ventura for Mac-based products

macOS Ventura takes the Mac experience to a whole new level with groundbreaking capabilities that help users achieve more than ever. New features like Continuity Camera enable users to seamlessly work across their Apple devices, and productivity tools including Stage Manager help users stay focused and easily move between tasks. Safari ushers in a passwordless future with passkeys, and big updates come to popular apps including Mail and Messages.

Continuity Camera is an interesting feature, especially as many people spend a lot of time on video calls. Continuity Camera lets a Mac utilize the cameras on the user's iPhone as their webcam. This is handy when using an external display without a camera, connecting to a desktop Mac or using a laptop while closed. The feature also promises a better camera image since newer iPhones likely have superior cameras built into Macs. The other added benefit is Continuity Camera can simulate an overhead camera using the wide-angle mode, allowing the capture of a physical desktop.

Stage Manager has been a bit controversial with supported devices, concept, and bugs. Stage Manager offers users a new way to organize acting/working windows and applications.

Most interesting may be the new passkey feature, as Apple begins to adopt the FIDO Alliance scheme to eliminate passwords. The passkey is a passwordless authentication. Essentially, the device will authenticate without the contacted server holding passwords. If there are no passwords on servers, there's less chance for breaches and using passwords from breaches to access accounts.

macOS Ventura is available now at no cost.
