Report: Apple demos new headset to board of directors

Bloomberg reports that Apple's leadership provided a demo of its rumored first entry to wearable headsets. The device is described as a mixed-reality headset with virtual reality and augmented reality features. It's speculated board demos suggest a new product is nearing release. It was also reported Apple has additional headsets in the works.

The headset features advanced processors -- on par with those in Apple's latest Macs -- as well as ultra-high-resolution screens. Though the first model will offer both VR and AR, the company is also working on stand-alone AR glasses, codenamed N421, for release later this decade. Unlike VR, augmented reality overlays digital information and images on top of the real world.

It's also rumored that Apple has been prepping a new operating system for the device, along with prepping mixed-reality versions of some of its apps.

No release date is known for the first device, although Bloomberg speculates an announcement could as soon as this year or next year with shipping in 2023.
