Apple responds to Spotify cleans w/ European regulators

9 to 5 Mac:

Apple and Spotify are engaged in a bitter antitrust battle in Europe, with Spotify claiming that Apple’s App Store rules give it an unfair advantage over competitors. Apple has now responded to Spotify’s claims in a new filing with the European Commission.

The filling was first reported by German newspaper Der Spiegel. In the document, Apple accuses Spotify of knowingly presenting false information regarding the fees it pays to Apple through the App Store

Apple points out that Spotify hasn't allowed people to signup to its service within Apps since 2016. Apple charges a 30 percent fee only the first year of a subscription and 15 percent fee after. So, according to Apple, the accusation that Apple is, either directly or inferred, charging Spotify 30 percent can't be true. Furthermore, Apple disclosed that Spotify only pays Apple a fee for about 0.5 percent of its total subscribers, which would seem to marginalize the impact of Apple's App Store fees for the company.
